Minnetonka Ice Arena

City programs such as public skating, skating lessons, and adult hockey are offered through the Minnetonka Ice Arena. The Lake Minnetonka Figure Skating Club, Hopkins and Minnetonka Youth Hockey Associations, and high school hockey programs from both Minnetonka and Hopkins School Districts utilize Minnetonka Ice Arena for the operation of their programs. Approximately 260,000 people use the ice arena facilities on an annual basis. The ice arena is projected to utilize approximately 5700 hours of ice time in 2008.

Skating Lessons

Class lessons are available for skaters of all ages and abilities. The All Season Skating School offers two 12-week sessions during the school year beginning in early September and early January and an 8-week session beginning mid-June. We are now accepting registrations for our winter session which begins January 5, 2010. Brochure and registration form are below, or call the arena office at 952.939.8310.

Silver Skates Ice Revue

The 36th Annual Silver Skates Ice Revue will be held April 29, 30, and May 1, 2010. Students enrolled in Session II group lessons, which start in January, are eligible to participate. Registration forms are due in early January 2010

Public Skating
(September 8, 2009–April 22, 2010)

Admission:

  • Adults 18 asnd older: $4
  • Students/pre-k/seniors: $3

Skate rental: $2

Public skating is offered on the following days:

  • Sunday: 2:30–4:30 p.m.
    Last Sunday is April 11, 2010
  • Tuesday: 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
  • Thursday: 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
  • Friday: 7:30–9 p.m.
    Last Friday is April 9, 2010

Times are subject to change during special events such as tournaments, ice shows, etc. Please confirm specific dates and times at the arena office.

No public skating on:

  • November 26, 27 & 29, 2009
  • December 18 and 25, 2009
  • March 14 & 19, 2010
  • April 4, 2010

Adult Open Hockey
(September 11, 2009–April 22, 2010)

Admission: $5 per skater, goalies free!

Open Hockey is available to adults age 18 and older on the following days:

  • Mondays: 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
  • Fridays: 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
  • Friday nights: 9:15 p.m.–10:30 p.m. (ends April 2)

No Open Hockey on the following dates:

  • December 18 & 25, 2009
  • March 19, 2010

Ladies Open Hockey
(September 10, 2009–April 22, 2010)

Admission: $5 per skater, goalies free!

Open Hockey is available to adults age 18 and older on the following days:

  • Thursdays: 9:45 –11:15 a.m.

No Open Hockey on the following date:

  • Thursday, November 26, 2009

Fit & Trim

Wednesday mornings

Admission: $3 per class

Fit & Trim offers adults a chance to combine leisure skating with aerobic exercise. This on-ice exercise is ideal for skaters of all abilities. Class begins at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. No pre-registration is needed. Come to as many classes as you like.

Pro Shop

We carry the basic figure skating and hockey merchandise (i.e., tights, laces, guards, tape, and mouth-guards).

High School Hockey

Minnetonka Ice Arena is home of the Hopkins Royals Girls Hockey team, 2008–09 Classic Lake Champions and State Runners-Up.

General Information

  • Ice Rental (rinks A and B): $170/hour plus tax ($180/hour plus tax effective September 7, 2009)
