Handgun permit
Effective May 25, 2005, a new law sets forth new procedures for county sheriffs to follow in issuing permits to carry handguns. Although much of the new law is similar to the law ruled unconstitutional in the summer of 2004, the new permit-to-carry law does contain some significant differences. As a result the forms previously used in the application process are obsolete and unusable. New forms will be made available as soon as possible. Current Minnesota state law requires a permit from the police agency in the community in which you live, to purchase a handgun and then a more restrictive permit and application process to carry a handgun.
