Construction Inspections
There are four types of inspectors who specialize in the different areas of construction. The different areas are building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. The inspectors are required to ensure that the work being done meets code and follows the approved plan. The number of inspections may vary depending on whether the work is particularly complex, or it involves more than one area of expertise, or the work does not meet the requirements of the code.
Inspectors spend most of their day doing inspections in the field, so it’s easiest to reach them by calling 952.939.8200. If the inspector isn’t available when you call, leave a voice mail message.
Inspectors do not schedule their own inspections. Inspections may be scheduled by calling 952.939.8394. Please have the permit number available.
The permit technicians will help you schedule your inspection at a time convenient for you: inspections are conducted Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Code Compliance
The Minnesota State Building Code, which is enforced by the city, provides minimum standards to safeguard life, property, and the well-being of the public. It accomplishes this by regulating and controlling the design, construction, and quality of materials used in building projects. The city of Minnetonka has adopted the Minnesota State Building Code. Public libraries may have copies of these documents.
